ABOUT MONTE ALEGRE
Monte Alegre do Sul is a small touristic town very near where these beans are produced. Monte Alegre translates to "Happiness Mountain" and is a pleasant destination for urbanites from the city of Sao Paulo.
Monte Alegre do Sol is located within an area known for its natural spring waters, and there are plentiful waterfalls to splash around in around the Camanducaia River. In July, there is an annual strawberry festival with some of the sweetest berries around.
Another appealing characteristic of Monte Alegre do Sul is that it is known as producing some of the best cachaças in Brazil.
Cachaça (pronounced Ka-Cha-Sa) is a treat enjoyed straight or mixed in as the main ingredient in Brazil's national drink, the Caipirinha. Cachaça, like rum, is made from fermented sugarcane juice. Some key differences is that cachaça is made from fresh sugarcane juice, while rum is normally made from molasses (a by-product of boiled sugarcane juice).
