In honor of International Women's Day 2022, we are proud to introduce La Morena from Guatemala. This coffee, produced by 23 woman-coffee farms, is from the Huehuetenango region of western Guatemala that has ideal conditions for coffee production.
La Morena's medium roast level highlights the unique topography of volcanic peaks and mountains that carve out Guatemala's coffee growing regions. The soil is rich as a result of the high volcanic activity of the region.
Boarding Pass Coffee will donate a portion of every sale of La Morena to the Wakami Foundation. The Wakami Foundation's mission is to impact the lives of over 500 women in rural Guatemala by establishing, incubating, and strengthening woman-owned businesses. In addition to business training programs, the foundation also provides scholarships for the children of the artisans to continue their primary and secondary educations. Flavor notes: Nougat, milk chocolate, almond, black cherry
ABOUT LA MORENA
Gender equality in Guatemala is an ongoing issue, especially in the male-dominated industry of coffee production. The La Morena program was started in 2016 in association with Volcafe Guatemala and in its first year produced a 2000 lb micro-lot from four women coffee producers. Today, La Morena features coffee from 23 woman-owned farms in Guatemala with a volume of approximately 40,000 lbs.
Since its inception, not only has the volume (and therefore profits) grown, but the quality has increased significantly as well.
