Arusha (Tanzania) Peaberry - Medium Roast

Our Arusha roast is a very special medium Peaberry offering. The rare peaberry coffee beans result when only one seed grows inside the coffee cherry (as opposed to two as is more normally occurring). This means that there is extra space to grow, and a fuller and rounder seed is produced, hence the name “peaberry.” Peaberries are considered by some to have more complex and superior flavor profiles.

About Arusha:

The Tanzanian town of Arusha is a dynamic, bustling hub of activity. It is the third largest city in Tanzania and home to a multicultural population including many of Arab and Indian descent.

Besides being the halfway point between Cape Town and Cairo, Arusha is the major diplomatic hub of East Africa. The International Crime Tribunal for Rwanda was held in town from 1994-2015 and is also home to the East African Community (EAC). In 2000, President Bill Clinton compared Arusha to Geneva when he witnessed the Burundi peace signing agreement known as the Arusha Accords, and thus it became known as the "Geneva of Africa" due to its neutrality.

 But what draws most travelers to Arusha is its proximity to Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft) and the "northern circuit" safari destinations of the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. The excitement in the air is palapable as preparations are underway confirming sufficient gear for a Kili summit or last minute checks of binoculars to get a view of the "Big Five" on safari.
