Warmikuna means ‘women’ or ‘group of women’ in Qechua, which was the language spoken by the Incas. Today it is the second most used language in Peru.
The origins of the Warmikuna Cluster of coffee producers dates back to 2010 when a group of women in the Junin region of Peru joined a farmer support program to handle the challenges faced by coffee farmers. Twelve years later, the Warmikuna Cluster was born.
True to its name, the Warmikuna Cluster is comprised of 55 women representing six coffee farms that have demonstrated a leading role in the local coffee industry.
Junin is a coffee-rich region in central Peru that was founded in 1539 as the Town of Kings. The region is biodiverse and is the bridge between the Andes mountain range and Amazon rainforest.
