Xalapa (pronounced Ha-la-pa) is a university city in the Mexican state of Veracruz surrounded by volcanos and cloud forest. It is known as the "Athens of Veracruz" and home to the Universidad Veracruzana.
The Xalapa Cathedral is a famous landmark that was built in 1641 and has been modified over the years in Neo-classical,
Neo-gothic and Baroque styles. It is stunning regardless of its architectural identity changes, especially with the mountainous terrain in the background.
Xalapa is also referred to as Jalapa and is where jalapeño peppers were originally cultivated. Say the name out loud -
"Ha-la-pa." Now look closer at the word "jalapeño." The Spanish word "jalapeño" translated into English literally means "from Jalapa."
We can't guarantee the our Xalapa roast is spicy like a jalepeño pepper, but we are pretty confident you learned something new today!
