About Pamba
The Pamba River, located in the Indian state of Kerala, has been central to Kerala’s history and culture for centuries. It is often mentioned in ancient texts and has been vital for trade, tourism, and agriculture in the region.
The river is closely associated with the Sabarimala Temple, which is one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites in India. Devotees bathe in the river before proceeding to the temple, making the Pamba an important part of the pilgrimage ritual.
After flowing through the districts of Kottayam and Pathanamthitta, the Pamba empties into Vembanad, one of Kerala's largest and most famous backwater systems. Vembanad Lake itself is connected to a network of canals and other waterways that form the Kerala backwaters, a well-known travel destination with lush landscapes and tranquil boat cruises.
